PAIC Submits Public Comment on Federal Vaccine Recommendations
The Pennsylvania Immunization Coalition (PAIC) recently submitted a public comment in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Request for Information regarding the categories used in federal vaccine recommendations and the role of shared clinical decision-making.
PAIC emphasized that vaccine recommendations should be grounded in rigorous scientific evidence and informed by qualified clinicians, researchers, and public health experts. The Coalition also highlighted the importance of transparent decision-making and consistent recommendations across federal agencies and leading medical organizations to reduce confusion and maintain public trust.
PAIC supports reserving shared clinical decision-making for limited circumstances where individualized discussion of risks and benefits is appropriate. The majority of vaccines have well-established favorable benefit-risk profiles, demonstrate population-level benefits, and should remain routinely recommended.
The Coalition also emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases, including maintaining safe school environments and protecting children who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
PAIC remains committed to promoting evidence-based immunization policies and ensuring that vaccine recommendations support the health and well-being of Pennsylvania’s children, families, and communities.
